PIXEL ABSTRACTION

The first solo exhibition of pixel paintings by Ho Yue Weng, "Pixel Abstraction" features 28 digitally painted canvases inspired by the lyrical landscapes of Bali, the nostalgic charm of the old street scene and the stylistic rendering of the sensuous fugitive abstracts.

The final of this series of five exhibitions features three top realist artists namely Choo Keng Kwang, Chua Mia Tee and Siew Hock Meng and two artists, Foo Chee San and Tan Tee Chie who are currently experimenting in contemporary Chinese ink painting in the representational style. Except for Siew Hock Meng who is the youngest in the group, the other artists have over sixty years involvement in art.

This is the final of three groups of artists working in the semi-abstract or abstract style. Artists participating in this series are Choy Weng Yang, Yeo Hoe Koon, Thomas Yeo, Goh Beng Kwan, Teo Eng Seng and Tang Da Wu.

The 28 artists featured in this series of 5 exhibitions titled Important Second-Generation Artists are from the cream of talents we have. They are committed artists and have been painting for over 40 years. They are our long distance runners and rank among the best artists in the region. Artists featured in this exhibition which is the third in the series include painters Lim Yew Kuan, Ho Ho Ying, Tan Teo-Kwang and Thang Kiang How and sculptors Han Sai Por and Sim Lian Huat.

The second of this exhibition series features the works of Wee Beng Chong, Tay Chee Toh, Anthony Poon, Chieu Shuey Fook, Jaafar Latiff and Leo Hee Tong. Highly imaginative and innovative, this group of artists are noted especially for their powerful design sense, outstanding draftsmanship and great technical dexterity.

DLR Gallery with the support of the National Arts Council is proud to host a series of 5 exhibitions of works by 28 Second-Generation Artists. Titled “Important Second-Generation Artists Series”, this series recognises artists who have been instrumental in shaping the development of Art in Singapore and who have consistently demonstrated capabilities comparable with established artists in other parts of the world.   “Second-generation” refers to artists who were active in the art scenes of the 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s and are still active today.
